Stribog: the stories first, then the spelling
Before the spelling, the story. Stribog earns its restoration the old way — through what was actually told.
The Stories That Carry the Name
The Idols in the Dnieper. When Vladimir's baptism swept the old pantheon into the Dnieper in 988, the Primary Chronicle preserved the full list of the drowned: Perun, Khors, Dazhbog, Stribog, Simargl, and Mokosh. No anecdote attaches to Stribog — no oath, no sorcerer, no gloss, no weeping crowd. Of the six he is the most silent: not first like Perun, not glossed like Dažbog, not folk-remembered like Mokosh.
The Grandsons of Stribog. The single vivid sentence about Stribog stands in the Slovo o polku Igoreve (c. 1185), the greatest work of Old Rus' literature. As Igor's doomed army rides out against the Polovtsians, the poet summons the omens, and the winds rise on cue: 'Then the winds, Stribog's grandsons, blew from the sea' — a squall driving the dust and the portents before it.
The Name That Won't Decode. Everything else about Stribog is a problem on a philologist's desk. The second half of the name is bogъ, 'god' — the same element that gives us Dažbog, 'giving god' — but the first half, strib-, has no agreed root. Comparisons with words for 'arrow' and for 'spreading' or 'scattering' have circulated in the literature for a century; none carries the field, and even the vowel of the name wavers in the manuscript tradition.

The Name Travels
Stribog attracted no Christian successor — no saint took the winds from him the way Elijah took Perun's storm — and Byzantine writers had no classical slot for a wind-god, so no interpretatio rescued him either. His afterlife is purely literary and comparative.
The Address It Earned
The temple of Stribog stands at /stribog/ — lore, scholars, patterns — because a name carrying this much story deserves more than a parking page. One decisive feature survives — a single, honest mark — which places the restoration in Tier-2: exact, and exactly labeled.
