The appointments Kṣitigarbha made — and who is keeping them
Take Kṣitigarbha's stories in sequence. They are not episodes; they are appointments — and the modern trades are keeping them.

The Cycle, Read Forward
Funerary & Memorial Services — through The Commission in the Trāyastriṃśa Heaven
The Sūtra of the Past Vows of Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva is set in the heaven of the Thirty-Three, where the Buddha preaches for his mother's sake before his passing. There he recounts Kṣitigarbha's long record of vows and formally entrusts to him all beings of the coming age — the interval between Śākyamuni's parinirvāṇa and Maitreya's arrival.
The atlas states the seat in one line: The vow to empty the hells; the bodhisattva who attends the dead between lives. The story above is the long version of the same sentence. Industries do not invent their archetypes; they inherit them and call them best practice.
Travel, Tourism & Place Branding — through The Brahmin Daughter
The sūtra's most beloved past life is a daughter's. A pious brahmin girl's mother died slandering the Dharma, and the daughter, selling all she had to make offerings, was granted a vision of the Avīci hell — where she learned that her merit had already lifted her mother toward heaven.
The atlas states the seat in one line: Protector of travelers on the roads of the six realms; the roadside guardian. The story above is the long version of the same sentence. That is the cycle working: story becomes duty, duty becomes trade.
Wedding, Family & Maternity — through The Silla Prince of Jiuhua
In the eighth century a Korean prince of Silla, Jin Qiaojue, came to Mount Jiuhua in Anhui and practiced there in austerity until his death; the mountain's monks, finding his body uncorrupted, enshrined him as Dìzàng's own emanation, and Jiuhuashan became the bodhisattva's bodhimaṇḍa — one of China's four sacred Buddhist mountains. His "flesh body" is venerated there still, and Dìzàng's birthday on the thirtieth of the seventh lunar month closes the Ghost Month across the Chinese world.
The atlas states the seat in one line: Guardian of children; as Jizō he watches over the young at every roadside. The story above is the long version of the same sentence. That is the cycle working: story becomes duty, duty becomes trade.
The Theme That Runs the Cycle
Kṣitigarbha's mythology is the story of a vow repeated across lifetimes — a brahmin daughter, a king — each life renewing the same impossible promise.
The Method, Stated Plainly
None of this is numerology. A seat exists only where the match can be argued from the deity’s documented domains and deeds — weighted, published, and falsifiable. The derivation, the weights, and the challenge process are public on the methodology page. If a seat in this file reads wrong, the atlas itself tells you how to prove it — and the correction becomes part of the record.
For the Ones Who Work There
If you work in funerary & memorial services, travel, tourism & place branding, or any trade this temple holds a seat in, this is the honest version of what a placement means: your industry beside the story it has been re-telling all along — on the temple floor itself, before an audience that came specifically to read it. The patron tier and the advertising terms describe the mechanics; the resonance above describes the fit.
The File Continues
One of 271 Resonance Files — the series where the pantheon goes to work. Read the founding dispatch for the name, the Restoration File for the spelling, or the whole archive end to end.
Continue the series — previous: Krónos (read it) · next: Kyōto (read it).
The Resonance Files are argued from the same canonical record as the pattern atlas itself: the lexicon, the lore catalog, and the cited sources. Every seat can be challenged at the methodology page — and the challenge is the point.
