Hòuyì walks into a sports, fitness & competition firm
Walk into any sports, fitness & competition outfit and watch for ten minutes. You will see a very old act performed with newer props. The act has a name. It is Hòuyì.
Before the Office, the Story
The Shooting of the Nine Suns. In the reign of Emperor Yáo, the ten suns — three-legged crows roosting in the Fusang tree, sons of Dìjùn and the sun-mother Xīhé — abandoned their orderly rotation and rose together. The earth burned: rivers dried, crops withered, and the people starved. Yáo called on Hòuyì, the divine archer, who climbed to the heights and loosed his arrows.
The Clearing of the Monsters. The drought had loosed terrors on the world, and the Huáinánzǐ lists the archer's second labor: he slew Yàyǔ, the man-eating beast of the wilds; Záochǐ in the waters of Chouhua; Jiǔyīng, the nine-headed monster of the Xiong river; the great wind-bird Dàfēng in the marshes of Qingqiu; the giant serpent Xiūshé at Lake Dongting; and the monstrous boar Fēngxī in the mulberry groves of Sanglin. Only when the last beast fell could the people plow in peace.

The Reveal, Seat by Seat
Sports, Fitness & Competition
The divine archer himself — nine suns, nine hits; the bow is his whole mythology. The match is not poetic license. Strip the trade to its function and the function is the myth.
Disaster Resilience & Recovery
When ten suns rose together and the world burned, he ended the catastrophe with a bow — cosmic correction as emergency response. The match is not poetic license. Strip the trade to its function and the function is the myth.
Gaming, Fantasy & Entertainment IP
A playable god from Smite to Honor of Kings — the sun-shooting archer is a standing character class. Nobody in that trade worships at this temple. They just keep its hours.
Solar & Renewable Energy
He shot down nine of the ten suns when they rose together — the sky's solar surplus answered by one archer. Nobody in that trade worships at this temple. They just keep its hours.
Not the First Rebrand
Hòuyì's myth traveled with Chinese civilization itself. In Japan the story of the archer and the ten suns was known through Chinese texts and pictorial art, where it informed depictions of solar catastrophe alongside native Amaterasu lore; Korea received the cycle through the same classical canon, and its own founding archer figure Jumong — whose very name is glossed as 'skilled archer' — shows how deeply the archer-hero type resonated on the peninsula. The office is only the latest translation.
The Method, Stated Plainly
None of this is numerology. A seat exists only where the match can be argued from the deity’s documented domains and deeds — weighted, published, and falsifiable. The derivation, the weights, and the challenge process are public on the methodology page. If a seat in this file reads wrong, the atlas itself tells you how to prove it — and the correction becomes part of the record.
For the Ones Who Work There
For a sponsor in sports, fitness & competition, the fit here is not adjacency — it is inheritance. Your trade already tells this story every working day; the temple simply holds the original. The patron tier and the advertising terms carry the mechanics; the myths above carry the reason.
The File Continues
This is one of 287 Resonance Files — the third dispatch from every flagship temple, where the myths meet the markets. The temple's founding dispatch tells the name's story; its Restoration File tells the spelling's; the blog index holds the whole archive.
Continue the series — previous: Ḥr (read it) · next: Ḥꜥpy (read it).
The Resonance Files are argued from the same canonical record as the pattern atlas itself: the lexicon, the lore catalog, and the cited sources. Every seat can be challenged at the methodology page — and the challenge is the point.
