The Myth at Work
The Great Hymn to Šamaš. The most famous literary monument to Šamaš describes him rising from the eastern mountains, scattering the demons of night, and looking down upon every land. 'You climb the mountains to observe the world; the lower world lies before you like the palm of a hand. — remember the shape of that act. You will see it again, wearing a logo.
Hammurabi Before the Sun-God. The stele of Hammurabi's law code opens with a scene in which the Babylonian king stands before Šamaš, who extends the rod and ring of kingship.
