The provenance file on Nt
The provenance file for Nt. Nothing here is unsourced; that is what the file is for.
Provenance
1. The attestation. 𓈖𓏏𓋌, from the tradition's own record. On record: Esna temple hymns (the great Neith cosmogonies), Contendings of Horus and Seth (Neith’s oracle), Plutarch, De Iside et Osiride (the veiled image of Sais), Herodotus, Histories 2.59 (the Saïtic festival).
2. The narrative record. The Cow Who Bore the Sun — The great hymns of Esna make Neith the mother of Ra: she as the celestial cow gives birth to the sun-disc from between her horns, and the seven scorpions that escort Isis are her daughters. Creation here is maternity on a cosmic scale — the goddess is the source from which the solar order proceeds. Mother of Sobek — In the crocodile-god’s country, Neith is Sobek’s mother and the lady of the deep waters he rises from. The pairing of a primeval water-goddess with her crocodile son gives the Fayum’s theology its structure: she is the Nun-like depth, he its dangerous, fertile emergence.
3. The physical record. Her Delta city Sais — biblical and classical Saïs — was the capital of the Twenty-sixth Dynasty, which consciously revived her archaic cult; its great temple is now largely lost to the water table, but the Esna inscriptions record its liturgy. The crossed-arrows emblem occurs from Naqada-period potsherds to Roman stelae.
4. The current holding. The temple at /neith/, a temple of the restored name. aSCII-equivalent form
5. The documented resonances. Defense, Military & Security, Textiles, Weaving & Networks, Software, Cloud & Developer Infrastructure — seats argued and weighted in the pattern atlas, read through the myths in this temple's Resonance File.
6. The primary sources. The Book of the Dead — the library this file answers to, open at the Sacred Texts collection.
7. The continuing record. Her Sais oracle became a proverb of ancient wisdom, quoted from Plutarch to the Renaissance Hermetica; ‘lifting the veil of Isis (Neith)’ passed into modern language as the image of unveiled nature. In Egyptology she anchors the study of Predynastic religion — her crossed-arrows sign is among the earliest divine emblems known.
