Kǒngzǐ walks into a diacritic-first domains firm
Walk into any diacritic-first domains outfit and watch for ten minutes. You will see a very old act performed with newer props. The act has a name. It is Kǒngzǐ.
Before the Office, the Story
The Qilin’s Jade Tablet (551 BCE). The legends of the Master’s birth are later embroidery on a plain record — Sīmǎ Qiān’s Shiji 47 says only that Kǒng Qiū was born in 551 BCE at Zōu in Lǔ, posthumous son of the aged soldier Kǒng Shūliáng Hé and the young Yán Zhēngzài. But tradition could not leave a founder without a portent: a qilin, the unicorn-beast that appears only when a sage is to come, was said to have entered the family courtyard and spat a jade tablet announcing a son whose doctrine would rule all under Heaven, though he would sit on no throne. The tablet bore the character for “hill” (qiū), and the child received it as his personal name — matching Mount Ni, beside which he was born — and the courtesy name Zhòngní, “second-born Ni.
The Master Asks Lǎozǐ About Rites. In his thirties the young Kǒngzǐ travelled west to the royal capital of Zhōu to question the aged archivist Lǎozǐ about the rites of burial and mourning. Lǎozǐ, tradition says, received him coolly: “The men of whom you speak are bones now, and their words died with them… I have heard that a good merchant hides his store as though it were empty, and that a noble man in his bearing looks like a fool. Cast off your pride and your many desires — for neither profits you.

The Reveal, Seat by Seat
Diacritic-First Domains
Toned pinyin distinguishes Kǒngzǐ from every plain Confucius domain. The match is not poetic license. Strip the trade to its function and the function is the myth.
Mythic Name Restoration
Confucius in pinyin tones; the canonical Chinese form of a global philosopher. Nobody in that trade worships at this temple. They just keep its hours.
Global Pantheon Brands
Confucius in pinyin tones; the canonical Chinese form of a globally cited philosopher. Nobody in that trade worships at this temple. They just keep its hours.
History, Archives & Records
The great compiler — he edited the classics and preserved the record of a civilization. Nobody in that trade worships at this temple. They just keep its hours.
Not the First Rebrand
The Master resisted deification in life — “while you do not yet know life, how can you know death? ” (Analects 11. The office is only the latest translation.
The Method, Stated Plainly
None of this is numerology. A seat exists only where the match can be argued from the deity’s documented domains and deeds — weighted, published, and falsifiable. The derivation, the weights, and the challenge process are public on the methodology page. If a seat in this file reads wrong, the atlas itself tells you how to prove it — and the correction becomes part of the record.
For the Ones Who Work There
For a sponsor in diacritic-first domains, the fit here is not adjacency — it is inheritance. Your trade already tells this story every working day; the temple simply holds the original. The patron tier and the advertising terms carry the mechanics; the myths above carry the reason.
The File Continues
This is one of 548 Resonance Files — the third dispatch from every flagship temple, where the myths meet the markets. The temple's founding dispatch tells the name's story; its Restoration File tells the spelling's; the blog index holds the whole archive.
Continue the series — previous: Kōbe (read it) · next: Kotoshironushi (read it).
The Resonance Files are argued from the same canonical record as the pattern atlas itself: the lexicon, the lore catalog, and the cited sources. Every seat can be challenged at the methodology page — and the challenge is the point.
