The domain you're reading about exists because someone refused to let Ọrun stay orun.
Ọrun's myths are the architecture of Yoruba cosmology: how heaven was made, and how souls travel its road to earth. In the beginning there was only Ọrun above and the waters below. Olódùmarè sent Odùduwà down with a chain, a hen, and a handful of earth: the hen scattered the soil on the water, and the land of Ilé-Ifẹ̀ spread — earth founded beneath heaven, the two realms joined by the road of the orisha.
