How Namtar was rebuilt, mark by mark

What We Found
The attestation runs through the tradition's own sources: 𒀭𒉆𒋻. Meaning: "Fate, destiny".
The figure behind the name: Namtar moves through Mesopotamian literature as an officer rather than a hero.
What the Name Carried In
The Name that Cuts Destiny. The Sumerian name is a transparent compound, and the compound is the whole theology. Nam is the abstract prefix of the fixed and ordained — as in nam-lú, 'human status,' or the divine me-decrees that hold civilization in shape; tar is the verb 'to cut, decide, separate,' written with a sign (𒋻) whose wedges evoke a knife.
The Vizier's Embassy. In the Standard Babylonian poem Nergal and Ereškigal (tablets from Nineveh, Assur, and Sultantepe), the queen's vizier gets the plot moving. Ereškigal, furious at the gods' feasting, sends Namtar up as her ambassador to demand honor; the gods rise for him — all but Nergal, who stays seated.
A spelling that has to carry stories like these is not a label. It is equipment.
Where It Stood Before Us
Cuneiform tablets from Nineveh, Assur, and Sippar preserve the Standard Babylonian versions of Nergal and Ereškigal and the Descent of Ištar, both of which cast Namtar as the queen's executive minister. Medical and apotropaic tablets in the Diagnostic Handbook (SA.GIG) and the udug-hul incantation series name 'the hand of Namtar' as a cause of disease. Sumerian literary tablets from Nippur and Ur include references to Namtar in city laments and underworld compositions. The bench inherits all of it — the web temple is the newest site, not the first.
What We Rejected
namtar as the primary form. It survives as the convenience it is; it does not get to lead. The hierarchy is full restoration first, and this name can afford to stand at the top of it.
What We Set Down
Namtar — Tier-2 here means one preserved truth — not less important, just singular. The temple shows it and names it.
For the voice: 'nahm-TAHR' — stress the second syllable and let the final r breathe, as though the word itself were being cut short.
The temple stands at /namtar/ — the notes above are public in its Scholarly Edition, sources and all.
