How Móði was rebuilt, mark by mark

Bench notes, Móði: what we found, what we rejected, and what we finally set down. Kept in the open, because a restoration you cannot audit is just a spelling with confidence.

What We Found

The attestation runs through the tradition's own sources: ᛘᚢᚦᛁ. Meaning: "The angry one".

The figure behind the name: Móði is not a god of independent myths.

What the Name Carried In

The Sons Who Survive. The eddic poem Vafþrúðnismál asks the question every Norse listener cared about: who lives when the fire dies? Óðinn, disguised as Gagnráðr, puts it to the all-wise giant: what of the gods survives Surtr's flames?

The Lifting of Hrungnir. After Þórr kills the giant Hrungnir in single combat at the ford, the giant's corpse falls across him, one leg pinning the thunder-god's neck to the ground. The Æsir tug and heave in vain; none can shift the dead weight.

A spelling that has to carry stories like these is not a label. It is equipment.

Where It Stood Before Us

No archaeological find names Móði directly; his existence rests on the medieval manuscript tradition — the Codex Regius of the Poetic Edda (c. 1270) and Snorri's Prose Edda (c. 1220). But his world is richly material: tens of thousands of Viking-Age Mjöllnir pendants, from Iceland to Russia, attest the hammer cult his myth inherits, and the picture-stones and rune-stones of Gotland and Sweden preserve the thunder-god's exploits that frame his sons' fame. The broader context — the warrior ethos that made móðr, battle-courage, a quality worth deifying — is documented across the whole material culture of Scandinavian heathendom. The bench inherits all of it — the web temple is the newest site, not the first.

What We Kept

The evidence, mark by mark — 1 feature the keyboard form modi cannot hold:

What We Rejected

Any form invented for availability. The rule on the bench: if the evidence does not carry it, the domain does not get it — whatever the registrar has in stock.

What We Set Down

Móði — Tier-1 is not a compliment; it is a measurement. This restoration keeps something the ASCII form provably loses, and the measurement is repeatable.

For the voice: 'MOH-thi' — hold the 'o' long like 'mow' without the glide, then say the voiced 'th' of 'father' and end with a short 'ee'.

The temple stands at /modi/ — the notes above are public in its Scholarly Edition, sources and all.

The File Continues

The temple's founding dispatch tells the name's story; its Resonance File reads the myths into the industries; the blog index holds the whole archive.

The Restoration Files are written from the same canonical record as the temples themselves: the lexicon, the lore catalog, the pattern atlas, and the cited scholarly sources. If a file ever disagrees with its temple, the temple is right — tell us, and the file will be corrected.
