Mārs and the industries that were always telling its story
The myths did not retire. They moved offices. This is the file on where Mārs works now.
Mārs enters myth almost entirely as a father — and what he fathers is the city. His stories are told by Rome's historians, not by its Homer, and they all serve one thesis: that Roman power is divine in origin and therefore answerable to ritual. The Vestal and the she-wolf, the shield from heaven, the old king fooled at a wedding: each myth is a charter for a piece of the state cult.
The pattern atlas — which maps every flagship temple to the industries its archetype demonstrably resonates with, each match argued and open to challenge — seats this temple in 6 industries. This file reads those seats the way they were earned: through the myths.

The Myth at Work
Rhea Silvia at the River. Livy opens the Roman story with a vestal crime that is really a divine plan (1. 3–4). — that is not just a story. It is a business model, four thousand years early.
Numa and the Ancile. In Numa's peaceful reign — the king who talked Jupiter himself out of human sacrifice with a handful of meal and onions — a shield fell from the sky, the ancile, with a promise that Rome's fate hung upon it. The problem was theft: one true shield, an empire to protect, and every enemy a potential thief. — that is not just a story. It is a business model, four thousand years early.
The Seats
Each of these is argued in the atlas with a weight and a why-line. What the atlas cannot fit in one line is the whole myth — so here is each seat with its story restored.
Agriculture, Food & Harvest
Farming, grain, food production, and agtech. (Sector: Energy & Natural World)
The why-line says it in one breath: Guardian of fields and boundaries before he was a battlefield god: Cato's farmers purified their land with a prayer to Mars, and the October Horse closed his agricultural year. That is not a resemblance; it is the same act, performed in a newer building.
Defense, Military & Security
Defense contracting, security services, and strategic studies. (Sector: Commerce & Governance)
War as a Roman office — the hasta in the Regia, the Salii dancing with the shields, Mars Ultor crowning the trophy: the god of disciplined war is the industry's own patron. — the atlas stops there, out of discipline. The myth keeps going: the function Mārs performs in the stories is precisely the function this industry sells.
Space, Astronomy & Celestial Science
Space agencies, astronomy, and the orbital economy. (Sector: Technology & Innovation)
The blood-red planet keeps his name in every sky chart, and every lander and orbiter sent there — Pathfinder to Perseverance — works a site the Romans named after their war god. — the atlas stops there, out of discipline. The myth keeps going: the function Mārs performs in the stories is precisely the function this industry sells.
Timekeeping & Calendar Systems
Watches, calendars, and time sciences. (Sector: Culture & Entertainment)
The old Roman year opened in his month, and dies Martis survives in French mardi, Spanish martes, and Italian martedì — Tuesday still marches under his name. Swap the costume and the sentence is indistinguishable from the myth. That is what a resonance seat means.
Leadership, Governance & Public Administration
Government, executive leadership, and statecraft. (Sector: Commerce & Governance)
The why-line says it in one breath: Father of Rōmulus and ancestor of the state: his cult was Roman governance itself, from the spear that moved when the republic marched to the Forum of Augustus. That is not a resemblance; it is the same act, performed in a newer building.
The temple holds 1 further seat beyond these — the full, argued list lives on its patterns floor.
The Long Employment
Mars is the most quietly successful name in the Western calendar. The month of March — Latin Martius, the first month of the old Roman year, when the spear moved and the campaigning season opened — still carries him; the weekday dies Martis became French mardi, Spanish martes, Italian martedì, and rode the loan into Japanese kasei and Korean hwasŏng as the name of the planet. The age changed. The work did not.
The Method, Stated Plainly
The atlas is not a horoscope. Seats are earned from the sources — argued, weighted, published — and every one of them can be challenged at the methodology page. A match that cannot survive an argument does not survive review. That is the whole trick: the patterns are claims, and claims can be tested.
For the Ones Who Work There
If you work in agriculture, food & harvest, defense, military & security, or any trade this temple holds a seat in, this is the honest version of what a placement means: your industry beside the story it has been re-telling all along — on the temple floor itself, before an audience that came specifically to read it. The patron tier and the advertising terms describe the mechanics; the resonance above describes the fit.

The Resonance Files are argued from the same canonical record as the pattern atlas itself: the lexicon, the lore catalog, and the cited sources. Every seat can be challenged at the methodology page — and the challenge is the point.
