How Ḥkꜣ was rebuilt, mark by mark
From the restoration bench — the working notes on Ḥkꜣ, kept because the process is the proof.
What We Found
The attestation runs through the tradition's own sources: 𓎛𓂓𓏛. Meaning: "Magic, first work".
The figure behind the name: Heka appears in the oldest strata of Egyptian theology as a force rather than a character, personified only gradually as the creator's eldest son.
What the Name Carried In
Spell 261: Before the Gods. In Coffin Texts spell 261, preserved on Middle Kingdom coffins and translated by R. O.
Heka in the Solar Boat. As a god, Heka serves aboard the sun barque of Re, where his presence is part of the nightly defense against Apophis. Book of the Dead spell 17 — the great commentary on creation — sets him among the powers that accompany the solar journey, and the daily temple ritual known as the Book of Overthrowing Apophis is in its entirety an act of state heka: wax effigies knifed, burned, and spat upon so that the real serpent of chaos is bound in the Duat below.
A spelling that has to carry stories like these is not a label. It is equipment.
Where It Stood Before Us
Ritual implements of heka include execration figurines and inscribed bowls from Saqqara and Mirgissa, bound and broken to neutralize enemies. The Harris Magical Papyrus (British Museum EA 10042) and the Leiden-London papyri preserve heka-spells for protection and healing; the Edwin Smith and Ebers medical papyri show spells embedded in clinical practice. Magical wands and ivory clappers incised with protective figures come from Middle Kingdom tombs at Lisht and Harageh, and temple reliefs at Karnak and Edfu depict the daily ritual of Overthrowing Apophis — state heka performed in open court. The bench inherits all of it — the web temple is the newest site, not the first.
What We Rejected
heka as the primary form. It survives as the convenience it is; it does not get to lead. The hierarchy is full restoration first, and this name can afford to stand at the top of it.
What We Set Down
Ḥkꜣ — What survives here cannot be shown in ASCII: a feature of the original that the fallback alphabet flattens. That is the Tier-1 test, and this name passes it without argument.
For the voice: 'heh-KAH' — start with a strong, throaty h, then a sharp ka held slightly longer at the end.
The temple stands at /heka/ — the notes above are public in its Scholarly Edition, sources and all.

The Restoration Files are written from the same canonical record as the temples themselves: the lexicon, the lore catalog, the pattern atlas, and the cited scholarly sources. If a file ever disagrees with its temple, the temple is right — tell us, and the file will be corrected.
