The provenance file on Danu

Provenance record 127 · Danu · one temple, fully accounted for.

Provenance

1. The attestation. —, from the tradition's own record. On record: Lebor Gabála Érenn (the Book of Invasions), Cath Maige Tuired (the Battles of Mag Tuired), Proto-Celtic *dānu river-name studies (Mallory & Adams), Vedic Danu parallels, Ṛgveda.

2. The narrative record. The Peoples of Danu Arrive — The Book of Invasions tells it as history: the Tuatha Dé Danann came from the northern islands in dark clouds, burned their ships behind them on the Irish shore, and contended for the island against the Fir Bolg and the Fomoiri. From each of the four cities they brought a treasure — the stone of Fál, the spear of Lugh, the sword of Nuadu, the cauldron of the Dagda — the four regalia of the divine race, each a gift of Danu’s line. The Battles of Mag Tuired — The race’s great war-cycle pits them against the Fomoiri, the sea-demons of chaos: Nuadu’s silver arm, Lugh’s many skills, the Dagda’s bottomless cauldron, and the Morrígan’s prophecy carry the day. Danu’s name stands over the whole cycle — the mother’s eponym on every battle-line, though she herself never draws a sword in the telling.

3. The physical record. Danu leaves no image — the medieval manuscripts give her no body. But the sídhe-hills of Ireland (Teamhair, Brú na Bóinne) are her race’s palaces, and the river-names across Europe are her signature.

4. The current holding. The temple at /danu/, a temple of the restored name. aSCII-equivalent form

5. The documented resonances. Freshwater & Hydrology, Gaming, Fantasy & Entertainment IP, Travel, Tourism & Place Branding — seats argued and weighted in the pattern atlas, read through the myths in this temple's Resonance File.

6. The continuing record. Her name survives in the Tuatha Dé Danann’s — the divine race of every Irish legend of consequence — and in the river-network of Europe, the Danube most of all. The modern Druidic and Celtic-revival movements take Danu as the mother-goddess of their pantheon; and the sídhe-tradition she eponymizes is the ancestor of the world’s entire fairy-canon.

The Restoration Files are written from the same canonical record as the temples themselves: the lexicon, the lore catalog, the pattern atlas, and the cited scholarly sources. If a file ever disagrees with its temple, the temple is right — tell us, and the file will be corrected.
