Balor walks into a defense, military & security firm
Walk into any defense, military & security outfit and watch for ten minutes. You will see a very old act performed with newer props. The act has a name. It is Balor.
Before the Office, the Story
Balor Son of Dot, Grandson of Nét. The book of invasions fixes Balor's place before it tells his deeds: Balor mac Doit meic Néit, 'Balor son of Dot, grandson of Nét', king of the Fomorians — the sea-going race who had pressed on Ireland since the age of the Nemedians, exacting tribute from the outer islands. His wife was Cethlenn of the crooked teeth, whose spear struck the Dagda at Mag Tuired; the Lebor Gabála records that the All-Father afterwards died of Cethlenn's wound — the settled price of Balor's war, long counted in the tally of the battle. His daughter was Ethniu, and by Cian — in the Lebor Gabála's genealogy the son of the healer Dian Cécht — she bore Lugh, the Samildánach, equally skilled in all the arts.
How the Eye Was Poisoned. Cath Maige Tuired explains the weapon before it uses it. Balor had a destructive eye, never opened except on a battlefield, and four men were needed to raise its lid with a polished handle that passed through it; any army that eye looked upon was made worthless, though it were many thousands strong. The poison had a childhood.

The Reveal, Seat by Seat
Defense, Military & Security
The eye that blasts armies when its lid is raised — the Fomorian superweapon. The match is not poetic license. Strip the trade to its function and the function is the myth.
Optics, Imaging & Vision
The Evil Eye itself — the gaze as weapon, the watch that kills. The match is not poetic license. Strip the trade to its function and the function is the myth.
Disaster Resilience & Recovery
Now read the why-line with the office in mind: The tower that fulfills the prophecy it was built to prevent — containment engineering failing on schedule. The people doing this work did not borrow the archetype. They re-derived it — the way Balor was always going to be re-derived wherever destruction, evil eye, fomorians matters.
Not the First Rebrand
Balor's clearest cross-border witnesses are comparative, not cognate. The Welsh corpus preserves no figure derived from the same name — the Brythonic silence is total, as it is for so many of the Fomorian cycle. The office is only the latest translation.
The Method, Stated Plainly
None of this is numerology. A seat exists only where the match can be argued from the deity’s documented domains and deeds — weighted, published, and falsifiable. The derivation, the weights, and the challenge process are public on the methodology page. If a seat in this file reads wrong, the atlas itself tells you how to prove it — and the correction becomes part of the record.
For the Ones Who Work There
For a sponsor in defense, military & security, the fit here is not adjacency — it is inheritance. Your trade already tells this story every working day; the temple simply holds the original. The patron tier and the advertising terms carry the mechanics; the myths above carry the reason.
The File Continues
This is one of 548 Resonance Files — the third dispatch from every flagship temple, where the myths meet the markets. The temple's founding dispatch tells the name's story; its Restoration File tells the spelling's; the blog index holds the whole archive.
Continue the series — previous: Baldr (read it) · next: Bꜣstt (read it).
The Resonance Files are argued from the same canonical record as the pattern atlas itself: the lexicon, the lore catalog, and the cited sources. Every seat can be challenged at the methodology page — and the challenge is the point.
