The appointments Midir made — and who is keeping them

The mistake is reading myths as entertainment. Midir's cycle reads more like a charter — each story assigning a duty the modern world still pays for.

The Cycle, Read Forward

Love, Dating & Relationships — through The Sloe and the Bride-Price

Midir of Brí Léith was the foster-father of Óengus, and he came to Brú na Bóinne to visit his fosterling. While the boys of the Brug were at their hurling, a sloe-thorn sprang from the play and put out Midir's eye; he stayed a year in the mound while Dían Cécht, the physician of the Túatha Dé Danann, made him whole.

The atlas states the seat in one line: Tochmarc Étaíne — the Otherworld host who wins Étaín from a mortal king at the game board. The story above is the long version of the same sentence. The trade thinks it is optimizing a process. It is re-enacting a charter.

Faith & Spiritual Organizations — through The Fly in the Crystal Bower

Midir already had a wife: Fuamnach, foster-daughter of Bresal the druid, and versed in her foster-father's arts. When Étaín came home to Brí Léith, Fuamnach's jealousy found its instrument — a rod of scarlet quicken-tree — and one stroke made her rival a pool of water, then a worm, then a purple fly of wondrous size and sweetness.

The atlas states the seat in one line: The síd of Brí Leith — the Otherworld household whose pride moves the visible world. The story above is the long version of the same sentence. Industries do not invent their archetypes; they inherit them and call them best practice.

Sports, Fitness & Competition — through The Long Game at Tara

In her second life Étaín married Eochaid Airem, high king of Ireland at Tara, and Midir came for her as the tale had promised. First he came in the shape of Ailill Anglonnach, the king's brother, who was wasting with love of her — three nights he lay beside her in that likeness and did not touch her, and so saved both her honor and Ailill's life.

The atlas states the seat in one line: Fidchell — the game that decides a marriage; pride and skill at their oldest Irish table. The story above is the long version of the same sentence. The trade thinks it is optimizing a process. It is re-enacting a charter.

The Theme That Runs the Cycle

Midir's mythology is a single long courtship told in two lifetimes — the fullest Otherworld dossier in the Irish corpus, preserved entire in Tochmarc Étaíne. It begins with a sloe-thorn and a bride-price, passes through jealousy and transformation and a rebirth eleven hundred years later, and ends at a fidchell board in Tara and a war of spades against the hollow hills. Around that spine the tradition adds the fosterage: the lord of Brí Léith reared Óengus, the Dagda's son, and the tie between the two mounds frames both gods' tales.

The Method, Stated Plainly

Skeptical? Good — the system is built for you. Every seat in this file carries its why-line and its weight, the full derivation is public at the methodology page, and the challenge process is part of the design. Falsifiable is not a posture here; it is the mechanism.

For the Ones Who Work There

If you work in love, dating & relationships, faith & spiritual organizations, or any trade this temple holds a seat in, this is the honest version of what a placement means: your industry beside the story it has been re-telling all along — on the temple floor itself, before an audience that came specifically to read it. The patron tier and the advertising terms describe the mechanics; the resonance above describes the fit.

The Resonance Files are argued from the same canonical record as the pattern atlas itself: the lexicon, the lore catalog, and the cited sources. Every seat can be challenged at the methodology page — and the challenge is the point.
