Efnysien belongs to one tale and fills it: the Second Branch of the Mabinogi, Branwen ferch Llŷr. The branch is the story of a compensation that failed, and Efnysien is the reason — twice over the author of the injury, and at the end the author of the only sacrifice that stopped the ruin.

The Myth at Work
The Two Brothers. The tale introduces him by contrast. Penarddun ferch Beli, mother of Brân the Blessed, Branwen, and Manawydan by Llŷr, bore two sons to Euroswydd: Nisien and Efnysien. — hold that image; the industries below are where it goes to work.
The Maiming of the Horses. When Brân gave his half-sister Branwen to Matholwch, king of Ireland, the wedding feast was held at Aberffraw, and the horses of the Irish king were stabled for the night. Efnysien asked why they were there, and was told they belonged to Matholwch, who had married his sister. — that is not just a story. It is a business model, four thousand years early.

The Long Employment
Lady Charlotte Guest's translation of the Mabinogion (1838–49) carried the Second Branch into the English-speaking world, and Efnysien's maiming of the horses and death in the cauldron became set-pieces of the Victorian Celtic revival. Evangeline Walton retold the branch at full length in The Children of Llyr (1971), the second volume of her Mabinogion tetralogy, and gave him the modern novel's inside view without softening him. The age changed. The work did not.
The Method, Stated Plainly
The atlas is not a horoscope. Seats are earned from the sources — argued, weighted, published — and every one of them can be challenged at the methodology page. A match that cannot survive an argument does not survive review. That is the whole trick: the patterns are claims, and claims can be tested.
