What We Found
The attestation runs through the tradition's own sources: —. Meaning: ""Best Truth" — the Amesha Spenta of cosmic order (Aša), guardian of the sacred fire and the moral law".
The figure behind the name: Ašavahišta's mythology is the Gathas' own theology: truth not as an idea but as an immortal who must be fed, fought for, and kept alight.
What the Name Carried In
The Bounteous Immortals. The Avesta's great hymn-names them: Vohu Manah (Good Mind), Aša Vahišta (Best Truth), Xšathra Vairya (Chosen Power), Spenta Ārmaiti (Holy Devotion), Haurvatāt (Wholeness), Amərətāt (Immortality) — the Amesha Spentas, the Bounteous Immortals who are at once Ahura Mazda's powers and persons. Ašavahišta is the second: the Truth the Good Mind thinks, and the Fire that proves it.
The Fire of Aša. His element is fire — not the destroyer but the tester. The Avesta gives fire to Aša Vahišta as his domain: the altar-flame through which prayers rise, and the ordeal-fire through which innocence is proven.
A spelling that has to carry stories like these is not a label. It is equipment.
Where It Stood Before Us
The fire-temples are his monuments: Adur Gušnasp at Takht-e Soleyman (Sasanian, UNESCO) — the shrine of kings; Adur Farnbag in Fars; and the working Atash Behram of Yazd, whose flame has burned since 470 CE. The Achaemenid reliefs of Persepolis show the fire-altar in royal worship, and the Gathas themselves — the oldest hymns of any living scripture — are his charter, preserved in the oldest Avestan manuscripts (K7, 14th c. copies of much older work). The bench inherits all of it — the web temple is the newest site, not the first.
What We Rejected
The plain ASCII ashavahista — admissible as a fallback, never as the primary. A wrong accent would have been worse: the rulebook is explicit that a misplaced mark is worse than none.
What We Set Down
Ašavahišta — The restoration preserves more than the ASCII form can express — stress, length, or a letter the Latin keyboard lost — which places it, mechanically, in Tier-1.
For the voice: ah-shah-vah-HISH-tah — two sharp š sibilants, even vowels.
The temple stands at /sites/ashavahista/ — the notes above are public in its Scholarly Edition, sources and all.
