ꜣnpw walks into a funerary & memorial services firm
The funerary & memorial services world does not cite ꜣnpw in its documentation. It does not need to — it performs the archetype daily, unbilled.
Before the Office, the Story
The First Embalming. When Set dismembered Osiris and Isis gathered the pieces, it was ꜣnpw who washed, anointed, and wrapped the god's body — the first mummy, the prototype of every burial thereafter. Egyptian priests performed the rite wearing his jackal mask, and the liturgy addresses the dead as "Osiris," while the hands doing the work are Anubis' own.
The Feather of Maat. The Book of the Dead's spell 125 fixes his most famous office: in the Hall of the Two Truths, ꜣnpw leads the deceased before the scales, steadies the beam as the heart is weighed against Maat's feather of truth, and announces the reading to Thoth, who records it. A heart heavy with lies is thrown to Ammit, the devourer — his is the hand that lets that happen, or prevents it.

The Reveal, Seat by Seat
Funerary & Memorial Services
The oldest funeral god of Egypt — master of embalming, lord of the necropolis, and the steady hand at the scales of the dead. The match is not poetic license. Strip the trade to its function and the function is the myth.
Insurance & Protection Services
Antiquity's most trusted guardian; protection of what matters beyond a lifetime. The match is not poetic license. Strip the trade to its function and the function is the myth.
Legal, Justice & Compliance
His hand steadies the beam of the judgment scales; every modern justice-scale icon borrows his pose. Nobody in that trade worships at this temple. They just keep its hours.
Pet Care & Animal Industries
The jackal guide; the Saqqara catacombs of millions of sacred dogs. The match is not poetic license. Strip the trade to its function and the function is the myth.
Not the First Rebrand
The Greeks, finding a god who guides souls, fused him with Hermês: Hermanubis had temples of his own in Alexandria and Rome, jackal-headed with the kerykeion in hand. Isis' Roman mysteries kept him as mystagogue — Apuleius describes his black-and-gold mask in the Isiac procession at Cenchreae. The office is only the latest translation.
The Method, Stated Plainly
The atlas is not a horoscope. Seats are earned from the sources — argued, weighted, published — and every one of them can be challenged at the methodology page. A match that cannot survive an argument does not survive review. That is the whole trick: the patterns are claims, and claims can be tested.
For the Ones Who Work There
For a sponsor in funerary & memorial services, the fit here is not adjacency — it is inheritance. Your trade already tells this story every working day; the temple simply holds the original. The patron tier and the advertising terms carry the mechanics; the myths above carry the reason.
The File Continues
This is one of 271 Resonance Files — the third dispatch from every flagship temple, where the myths meet the markets. The temple's founding dispatch tells the name's story; its Restoration File tells the spelling's; the blog index holds the whole archive.
Continue the series — previous: Anû (read it) · next: ꜥꜣpp (read it).
The Resonance Files are argued from the same canonical record as the pattern atlas itself: the lexicon, the lore catalog, and the cited sources. Every seat can be challenged at the methodology page — and the challenge is the point.
