Inaras: the stories first, then the spelling

You cannot weigh an accent without knowing what it carries. Here is what Inaras has been carrying.

The Stories That Carry the Name

The Feast of the Dragon. After the storm-god Tarḫunash is defeated by the dragon Illuyanka, Inaras takes action. She prepares an enormous feast of beer, wine, and every kind of food, then goes to the mortal Ḫupašiya and proposes a bargain: if he helps her trap the dragon, she will sleep with him. Ḫupašiya agrees.

Inaras and Ḫupašiya. The myth places a mortal at the center of divine victory. Inaras does not defeat the dragon alone; she enlists human cunning and desire. After the deed she warns Ḫupašiya not to look out the window while she is away, but he disobeys and sees his family.

Lady of the Steppe. As goddess of the wild animals, Inaras guarantees the abundance of game and the balance between human hunters and animal herds. Her domain is the dangerous, fertile margin between the settled land of Hatti and the wilderness beyond.

And Here Is What the Spelling Preserves

At a Glance

The Name Travels

Inaras shares traits with several ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern figures. Her role as mistress of animals recalls the Greek Potnia Theron, the Mistress of Animals who presides over wild creatures, and Artemis in her capacity as huntress.

The Address It Earned

The temple of Inaras stands at /inaras/lore, scholars, patterns — because a name carrying this much story deserves more than a parking page. Tier-2 here means one preserved truth — not less important, just singular. The temple shows it and names it.

The Emblems

The name does not travel alone. Gazelle — The swift animal of the steppe, emblem of her wild domain.; Bow and arrow — The tools of the hunt and the means by which she governs animals.; Feast — The banquet of beer and wine by which Illuyanka is lulled and trapped.. Each emblem is filed in the temple's record with its own provenance, the same discipline the spelling gets.

For the Voice

Scholarly reconstruction /iˈnaːras/; the exact ancient pronunciation is debated. The reconstructed line runs `/iˈnaːras/` — the temple's pronunciation atlas carries the phonemes one by one.

The Discipline It Answers To

This restoration belongs to Hittite, a tradition with its own exact discipline. The rules that govern it are not house style; they are the tradition's own scholarship, applied with the same care here as in any edition — and published, with the sources, so the file can be checked the way an edition can be checked. Tier-2 here means one preserved truth — not less important, just singular. The temple shows it and names it.

The Restoration Files are written from the same canonical record as the temples themselves: the lexicon, the lore catalog, the pattern atlas, and the cited scholarly sources. If a file ever disagrees with its temple, the temple is right — tell us, and the file will be corrected.
