How Chilsong was rebuilt, mark by mark

What We Found
The attestation runs through the tradition's own sources: 칠성 (七星). Meaning: "Seven stars".
The figure behind the name: The mythology of Chilsong is preserved in Korean oral tradition, shamanic ritual texts, and classical sources such as the Samguk Yusa.
What the Name Carried In
The Seven Spirits of the Dipper. The seven stars are personified as seven spirits or seven buddhas who preside over human fate. Each star is associated with a particular blessing, such as longevity, wealth, or protection from illness.
The Chilsong-jae. Buddhist temples performed Chilsong-jae, rituals dedicated to the seven stars. The rite combined invocation of the Big Dipper with Confucian cosmological symbolism, seeking the welfare of the state and the people.
A spelling that has to carry stories like these is not a label. It is equipment.
What We Rejected
The plain ASCII chilsong — admissible as a fallback, never as the primary. A wrong accent would have been worse: the rulebook is explicit that a misplaced mark is worse than none.
What We Set Down
Chilsong — The restoration keeps one feature the ASCII form drops. One is enough to matter, and the label says so plainly: Tier-2.
For the voice: 'CHEEL-song' — The first consonant is aspirated; the second syllable ends in a velar nasal. The name refers to the seven stars of the Northern Dipper.
The temple stands at /chilsong/ — the notes above are public in its Scholarly Edition, sources and all.

Each emblem is filed in the temple's record with its own provenance, the same discipline the spelling gets.
For the Voice
'CHEEL-song' — The first consonant is aspirated; the second syllable ends in a velar nasal. The name refers to the seven stars of the Northern Dipper. The reconstructed line runs `/tɕʰil.soŋ/` — the temple's pronunciation atlas carries the phonemes one by one.
The Discipline It Answers To
This restoration belongs to Korean, a tradition with its own exact discipline. The rules that govern it are not house style; they are the tradition's own scholarship, applied with the same care here as in any edition — and published, with the sources, so the file can be checked the way an edition can be checked.
