How Íris was rebuilt, mark by mark

What We Found
The attestation, in the attestation LSJ and Beekes, Etymological Dictionary of Greek give us: Ἶρις. Meaning: "Rainbow".
The figure behind the name: Îris is a function more than a character in early epic: she goes where she is sent.
What the Name Carried In
Messenger of Zeus. In the Iliad, Iris carries Zeus's commands to Achilles, Athena, Hera, and Poseidon. When the gods quarrel, she is the voice that enforces the king's will.
Iris and Achilles. When Achilles threatens to attack Agamemnon directly, Athena descends to restrain him, but Iris is also sent by Hera to urge him not to draw his sword. Achilles recognizes her and obeys — one of the rare moments when a mortal heeds a divine messenger instantly.
A spelling that has to carry stories like these is not a label. It is equipment.
Where It Stood Before Us
Iris appears frequently in Greek vase painting as a winged messenger, especially in scenes of the Trojan War and divine assemblies. She is less commonly represented in monumental sculpture than Hermes. Temples and altars specifically dedicated to Iris are rare; her cult was absorbed into the broader worship of Olympian messengers and celestial phenomena. The bench inherits all of it — the web temple is the newest site, not the first.

What We Rejected
The plain ASCII iris — admissible as a fallback, never as the primary. A wrong accent would have been worse: the rulebook is explicit that a misplaced mark is worse than none.
What We Set Down
Íris — The restoration preserves more than the ASCII form can express — stress, length, or a letter the Latin keyboard lost — which places it, mechanically, in Tier-1.
For the voice: 'EE-ris' — a long, high-pitched first syllable and a quick second syllable, like the arc of a rainbow.
The temple stands at /sites/iris/ — the notes above are public in its Scholarly Edition, sources and all.
