Why Dêlos is spelled that way — and what it costs to get it right
There is a version of this name the early internet had to settle for: delos. This is the file on how Dêlos replaced it.

The Name Before the Marks
The name is attested as Δῆλος, in the attestation Homeric Hymns and Pindar give us. On the evidence, it means "Clear, visible (from δῆλος)".
Spoken, the name runs `/dɛ̂ː.los/` — dAY-los, with the circumflexed long e of Δῆλος.
The Temple That Stands Now
The restored name is not a plaque; it is an address. The temple of Dêlos lives at /sites/delos/, with its mythology in the lore halls, its peer-reviewed record in the Scholarly Edition, and its place in the pattern atlas on the patterns floor.
Tier-1 is not a compliment; it is a measurement. This restoration keeps something the ASCII form provably loses, and the measurement is repeatable.
Where the Name Stood First
Dêlos is one of the richest excavated sites in Greece, a UNESCO World Heritage site worked by the French School at Athens since 1873. Standing monuments include the Terrace of the Lions (five of the original nine-plus Naxian lions in situ), the House of Dionysos with its superb mosaics, the theatre quarter's cisterns, the synagogue — one of the oldest identified — and the sanctuary complex of Apóllōn with its colossal kouros base. A 1st-century-BCE pirate raid and Mithridates' sack in 88 BCE froze the merchant city in the archaeological record. The temple on the web is the newest of these addresses — the first one that fits in a pocket.
