The Long Employment
Aštart's name survives in the biblical ʿAštōreth, in the Greek Aphrodite, and perhaps — though scholars dispute this — in the name of the Christian feast of Easter. What is certain is that she was one of the most widely worshipped goddesses of the first millennium BCE, her cult carried by Phoenician sailors from Carthage to Cyprus to Sicily. The age changed. The work did not.
