There is a version of this name the early internet had to settle for: metztli. This is the file on how Metztli replaced it.
The stories told of the Nahua moon are stories about light that must be limited: a twin who shines too bright and is struck by a rabbit, a sister dismembered at the serpent mountain, and a calm disk that keeps the months. The sources disagree about names — Tecciztecatl, Coyolxauhqui, Metztli herself — and the disagreement is the theology: one moon, many meanings.

The Name Before the Marks
Spoken, the name runs `/metztli/` — 'METZ-tlee' — the stress falls on the first syllable, and 'tl' is a single sound: tongue pressed to the palate, air escaping at the sides.

The restored name is not a plaque; it is an address. The temple of Metztli lives at /metztli/, with its mythology in the lore halls, its peer-reviewed record in the Scholarly Edition, and its place in the pattern atlas on the patterns floor.
One decisive feature survives — a single, honest mark — which places the restoration in Tier-2: exact, and exactly labeled.
Where the Name Stood First
Material evidence for the Nahua moon is anchored at the Templo Mayor: the Coyolxauhqui Stone (c. 1473, Phase II), a monolith some 3.25 metres across of the dismembered moon goddess, excavated by Eduardo Matos Moctezuma's team in 1978. Lunar deities carry the moon disk on their backs in codices such as the Codex Borgia and the Codex Fejérváry-Mayer. The textual evidence is equally material: Sahagún's Florentine Codex (Books I, III, VI, VII) was compiled 1555–1576 in Nahuatl and Spanish with Nahua elders, and the Codex Chimalpopoca preserves the Leyenda de los Soles — both manuscripts, not folklore collections, and the core witnesses for the leap into the fire and the rabbit hurled to dim the moon. The temple on the web is the newest of these addresses — the first one that fits in a pocket.
