The provenance file on Krónos

The provenance file for Krónos. Nothing here is unsourced; that is what the file is for.

Provenance

1. The attestation. Κρόνος — "Youngest Titan, personification of time, who castrated and deposed his father Uranus before being overthrown by his son Zeus". On record: LSJ, Beekes, Pape-Benseler, Hesiod, Theogony.

2. The preserved evidence. o → ó (Acute stress on the first omicron) — absent from the ASCII form kronos, present in the restoration, verifiable against the sources above.

3. The narrative record. The Castration of OuranosOuranos hated the children Gaia bore him and hid them inside her. Gaia fashioned a great stone sickle and persuaded her sons to avenge her. The Swallowed Children — Warned that one of his children would overthrow him, Krónos devoured each infant Rhea bore him: Hestía, Deméter, Hera, Hádes, and Poseidôn. Rhea, grieving, hid Zeus in a Cretan cave and gave Krónos a stone wrapped in swaddling clothes.

4. The physical record. At Olympia the Kronion hill and adjacent precinct were the setting for the Kronia festival; votive deposits from the area include terracotta figurines and dedications to Kronos and Rhea. Pausanias mentions a sanctuary of Kronos at Olympia and an oracle of Ge. In Attica, the Kronia celebrated a temporary social inversion. Roman temples of Saturn on the Capitoline and in the Forum preserve the god's Italic successor.

5. The current holding. The temple at /sites/kronos/, classified Tier 2. One decisive feature survives — a single, honest mark — which places the restoration in Tier-2: exact, and exactly labeled.

6. The documented resonances. Timekeeping & Calendar Systems, Agriculture, Food & Harvest, Ancestry & Heritage Services — seats argued and weighted in the pattern atlas, read through the myths in this temple's Resonance File.

7. The primary sources. Theogony, Homeric Hymns, Works and Days — the library this file answers to, open at the Sacred Texts collection.

8. The continuing record. Krónos haunts Western imagination as Father Time. Goya's Saturn Devouring His Son turned the myth into an image of mortality and madness.

The Restoration Files are written from the same canonical record as the temples themselves: the lexicon, the lore catalog, the pattern atlas, and the cited scholarly sources. If a file ever disagrees with its temple, the temple is right — tell us, and the file will be corrected.
