Ancient Domain
Hwanin is the supreme celestial figure who rules from heaven in the Dangun founding myth in Korean tradition. The name means "Lord of Heaven" and belongs to the domain "Supreme God, Heaven." In the Samguk Yusa, Hwanin is the ruler of heaven who answers the Buddha's request for a land fit for his teachings by sending his son Hwanung to earth. Hwanin is not a creator in the biblical sense; he is the apex of a celestial hierarchy that authorises the descent of culture and law to the Korean peninsula.
