Provenance
1. The attestation. Γαῖα — "Earth (from γαῖα)". On record: Hesiod, Theogony 116–210, Aeschylus, Eumenides 1–8; Prometheus Bound 755–770, Pindar, Isthmian 8.26–47, Pausanias, Description of Greece 10.5.
2. The preserved evidence. i → î (Circumflex on iota) — absent from the ASCII form gaia, present in the restoration, verifiable against the sources above.
3. The narrative record. First After Chaos — Hesiod's Theogony (116–133) opens the cosmos with four names: Chaos — the gaping void — then Gaia, broad-bosomed, the ever-sure foundation of all, then the deep Tartaros, then Eros, fairest among the deathless gods. Gaia acts immediately and without a mate: she bears Ouranos, starry Sky, to cover her all around; the Ourea, the Mountains; and Pontos, the barren Sea. The Castration of Ouranos — Ouranos hated his children and, as each was born, pushed it back into Gaia's womb, where the Titaness groaned with her crowded, straitened burden (Theogony 154–160). In pain and fury Gaia fashioned a great sickle of grey adamant and addressed her sons; only the youngest, crooked-counseled Kronos, dared the deed.
4. The physical record. At Delphi the stone Omphalos marked the 'navel' of Ge before Apollo's arrival; the goddess's sanctuary lies beneath the later Apollo precinct. Pausanias describes altars of Ge at Olympia, including the oracle of Ge, and at Athens the Boule honored Ge Kourotrophos and Demeter Chloe. Votive reliefs from the Athenian Agora and Eleusinion show worshippers approaching a seated Mother Earth with cornucopia and phiale.
5. The current holding. The temple at /gaia/, classified Tier 1. The restoration preserves more than the ASCII form can express — stress, length, or a letter the Latin keyboard lost — which places it, mechanically, in Tier-1.
