What We Found
The attestation runs through the tradition's own sources: —. Meaning: "The mother".
The figure behind the name: Eingana's mythology belongs to the oral traditions of the stone country and adjacent regions of western Arnhem Land.
What the Name Carried In
The Mother Who Made the World. In the beginning Eingana lay beneath the surface of the world, huge and pregnant with all life. She moved through the darkness, and where she pushed upward the land rose into hills and escarpments; where she rested, water pooled into billabongs and rivers.
The Snake Who Swallows and Regenerates. Eingana's power is life-giving but not safe. Stories tell that she swallows the dead or those who transgress her law, and that she can restore them or transform them into new forms.
A spelling that has to carry stories like these is not a label. It is equipment.
Where It Stood Before Us
The material record of Eingana and related Rainbow Serpent figures is preserved in the rock art of western and northern Arnhem Land, one of the world's longest continuous artistic sequences. Paintings of serpentine beings, waterholes, and ancestral episodes appear in shelter galleries from the Dynamic Figure period onward, with later X-ray and contact-period styles adding internal detail. The American-Australian Scientific Expedition to Arnhem Land (1948) and subsequent AIATSIS documentation recorded sites, designs, and associated narratives. Because the most sacred dimensions of the tradition are restricted to initiated custodians, the public archaeological record represents only the outer layer of a much deeper corpus of knowledge. The bench inherits all of it — the web temple is the newest site, not the first.
What We Rejected
eingana as the primary form. It survives as the convenience it is; it does not get to lead. The hierarchy is full restoration first, and this name can afford to stand at the top of it.
What We Set Down
Eingana — Tier-2 here means one preserved truth — not less important, just singular. The temple shows it and names it.
For the voice: 'eye-NGAH-nuh' — begin with the vowel of 'eye,' add the 'ng' of 'sing,' and end softly. Avoid breaking the 'ng' into two consonants.
The temple stands at /eingana/ — the notes above are public in its Scholarly Edition, sources and all.
