How Ašavahišta was rebuilt, mark by mark

The workshop file for Ašavahišta. Every rejected form is recorded here too — that is the point of keeping notes.

What We Found

The attestation runs through the tradition's own sources: 𐬀𐬴𐬀 𐬬𐬀𐬵𐬌𐬱𐬙𐬀. Meaning: ""Best Truth" — the Amesha Spenta of cosmic order (Aša), guardian of the sacred fire and the moral law".

The figure behind the name: Ašavahišta’s mythology is the Gathas’ own theology made personal: truth not as an idea but as an immortal who must be fed, fought for, and kept alight.

What the Name Carried In

The Bounteous Immortals. The Avesta’s great hymn-names them: Vohu Manah (Good Mind), Aša Vahišta (Best Truth), Xšaθra Vairya (Chosen Power), Spenta Ārmaiti (Holy Devotion), Haurvatāt (Wholeness), Amərətāt (Immortality) — the Amesha Spentas, the Bounteous Immortals who are at once Ahura Mazda’s powers and persons, his council and his limbs. Ašavahišta is the second, named beside Good Mind in the Gathas’ own theology: he is the Truth the Good Mind thinks, the order every right word and deed must match.

The Fire of Aša. His element is fire — not the destroyer but the tester. The Avesta gives fire to Aša Vahišta as his very domain: the altar-flame through which prayers rise — the Yasna calls it the most swift and powerful force of Ahura Mazda (Yasna 34.

A spelling that has to carry stories like these is not a label. It is equipment.

Where It Stood Before Us

The fire-temples are his monuments: Adur Gušnasp at Takht-e Soleyman (Sasanian, UNESCO) — the shrine of kings; Adur Farnbag in Fars; and the working Atash Behram of Yazd, whose flame has burned since 470 CE. The Achaemenid reliefs of Persepolis show the fire-altar in royal worship, and the Gathas themselves — the oldest hymns of any living scripture — are his charter, preserved in the oldest Avestan manuscripts (K7, 14th c. copies of much older work). The bench inherits all of it — the web temple is the newest site, not the first.

What We Rejected

The plain ASCII ashavahista — admissible as a fallback, never as the primary. A wrong accent would have been worse: the rulebook is explicit that a misplaced mark is worse than none.

What We Set Down

Ašavahišta — The restoration preserves more than the ASCII form can express — stress, length, or a letter the Latin keyboard lost — which places it, mechanically, in Tier-1.

For the voice: ah-shah-vah-HISH-tah — two sharp š sibilants, even vowels.

The temple stands at /ashavahista/ — the notes above are public in its Scholarly Edition, sources and all.

The File Continues

The temple's founding dispatch tells the name's story; its Resonance File reads the myths into the industries; the blog index holds the whole archive.

The Restoration Files are written from the same canonical record as the temples themselves: the lexicon, the lore catalog, the pattern atlas, and the cited scholarly sources. If a file ever disagrees with its temple, the temple is right — tell us, and the file will be corrected.
