How Hádēs was rebuilt, mark by mark

What We Found
The attestation, as LSJ and Beekes record: Ἅιδης. Meaning: "The Unseen One (from ἀ- + εἶδον)".
The figure behind the name: Hádēs appears rarely in Greek myth because his realm is separate from the world of the living.
What the Name Carried In
The Rape of Persephonē. With Zeús's permission, Hádēs burst from the earth in a golden chariot and seized Persephonē while she gathered flowers in a meadow. Demeter's grief caused famine and winter until Zeús negotiated a compromise: Persephonē spends part of the year above with her mother and part below with her husband.
The Judges of the Dead. In the underworld, the dead are judged by Minos, Aiakos, and Rhadamanthys — three former mortals made just. The wicked go to Tartaros, the ordinary dead to the fields of Asphodel, and the heroic few to Elysium.
A spelling that has to carry stories like these is not a label. It is equipment.
Where It Stood Before Us
Eleusis preserves the Telesterion and the Ploutonion, the cave from which Hades was said to have emerged to seize Persephone. The Nekromanteion at Ephyra on the Acheron was an oracle of the dead visited by Odysseus in the Nekyia. In Asia Minor, the Ploutonion at Hierapolis (Pamukkale) emitted suffocating gases and was enclosed as a sanctuary of Pluto. Votive reliefs from Locri Epizephyrii and Athens show the god with Cerberus and Persephone. The bench inherits all of it — the web temple is the newest site, not the first.
What We Kept
The evidence, mark by mark — 2 features the keyboard form hades cannot hold:
- a → á — Acute on alpha. Kept.
- e → ē — Eta: long epsilon. Kept.
What We Rejected
The plain ASCII hades — admissible as a fallback, never as the primary. A wrong accent would have been worse: the rulebook is explicit that a misplaced mark is worse than none.
What We Set Down
Hádēs — The restoration preserves more than the ASCII form can express — stress, length, or a letter the Latin keyboard lost — which places it, mechanically, in Tier-1.
For the voice: 'HAH-dace' — the first syllable is pitched high and sharp; the second is long and level, like the floor of the underworld.
The temple stands at /sites/hades/ — the notes above are public in its Scholarly Edition, sources and all.
