Provenance
1. The attestation. Γαῖα — "Earth (from γαῖα)". On record: LSJ, Beekes, Pape-Benseler, Hesiod, Theogony.
2. The preserved evidence. i → î (Circumflex on iota) — absent from the ASCII form gaia, present in the restoration, verifiable against the sources above.
3. The narrative record. First After Chaos — Hesiod's Theogony (116–122) begins with Chaos, then Gaia 'broad-bosomed,' then Tartaros and Eros. Gaia immediately gives birth to Ouranos (Sky), the Ourea (Mountains), and Pontos (Sea) without mating. The Castration of Ouranos — Ouranos hated the children Gaia bore him and pushed them back into her womb. In pain and anger, Gaia fashioned a great sickle of adamant and persuaded her youngest son Kronos to ambush his father.
4. The physical record. At Delphi the stone Omphalos marked the 'navel' of Ge before Apollo's arrival; the goddess's sanctuary lies beneath the later Apollo precinct. Pausanias describes altars of Ge at Olympia, including the oracle of Ge, and at Athens the Boule honored Ge Kourotrophos and Demeter Chloe. Votive reliefs from the Athenian Agora and Eleusinion show worshippers approaching a seated Mother Earth with cornucopia and phiale.
5. The current holding. The temple at /sites/gaia/, classified Tier 1. The restoration preserves more than the ASCII form can express — stress, length, or a letter the Latin keyboard lost — which places it, mechanically, in Tier-1.
