Ancient Domain
Baekdusan is the sacred White-Head Mountain, a volcanic peak revered as an origin place, source of rivers, and spiritual axis in Korean and Manchu shamanism in Korean tradition. The name means "White head mountain" and belongs to the domain "Sacred Mountain, Origin." Baekdusan means "White-Head Mountain," named for the snow and pumice that cap its volcanic summit. It stands on the border of present-day China and North Korea and is the source of the Yalu (Amnok) and Tumen rivers.
